This is what Mommy and I were talking about this morning. Mom wrote it all down word for word, so I guess it’s probably true! (C = me, K = Mommy, for reasons I don’t really understand. I mean, how could “Mommy” start with the “kuh” sound?? I swear, I’m not even two, and I can already tell that English is a broken language.)
C: Clara’s napkin! Pick it up — a big one! (while picking up a cottage cheese curd)
(C notices K bring in a small notebook that C has been drawing in lately)
C: Clara’s book! I want it! That’s mine!
K: Oh, I’m sorry. Can I write in it?
C: That’s mine, that’s mine!
K: Are you ready to get down? (from the breakfast table)
C: No.
(Pause. C eating.)
C: Pick it up! (picking up another fallen cottage cheese curd, using fingers.)
K: Use your spoon please.
C: Dropped it (referring to spoon). That’s MINE! (pointing to book).
K: Here, I’ll pick it up for you.
C: Dad’s fork. Pick it up.
K: Are you eating with Dad’s fork?
C: Yeah. I bang it.
(C bangs fork on table)
C: Doodleoodleoodleoo. Dad’s fork.
(pause)
C: Uh oh, this bowl broke (points to chip on bowl)
K: Oh no!
C: Fix it, fix it! (shrieking)
K: Oh, okay. (insincerely, while trying to catch up with transcribing the conversation)
C: Mama fix it later. Uncle Daniel fix it. Uncle Daniel fix it NOW!
K: Uncle Daniel is far away, and he’s at work.
C: Mommy fix it now, later! (whining)
K: Are you all done eating cottage cheese?
C: All done all done!! This bib all yucky. Off!
Then we went and played for a while. We had a good day.
P.S. Mommy typed this in for me.
